I was born in Minnesota, and moved to Arizona when I was seven. After high school I traveled to Germany as exchange student for one year and visited friends and my host family over several trips another full year. I currently study Ceramics at Arizona State University and in the future, I plan on attending Graduate school to continue a career in studio art.
The body of work shown involves designing new vessel forms around thrown parts. Each part represents a form that would be made on the wheel, which is attached to a complimenting form. All of the elements come together to make a cohesive design that conveys a personal emotion. These emotions reflect my learning process with this body of work, each time pushing me to new levels of understanding and confidence in myself. I intend to continue my study of these forms to improve my perception, process, and technique.
I also work on other individual pieces that represent a need to balance myself as well as my work. Where the deconstructed vessel forms represent the yang, the other works are my yin. They are more playful and show off varied interests. By taking a few hours out of my day to design projects like these, they help me in the end to focus more energy on my vessel series keeping me interested and happy with my work for longer.
